The material

Mystery of the Enclosures

Confused by the huge number of enclosure products on the market? Then this page is for you. There are many materials available and in use in the enclosure industry, and each has its own pros and cons. If the enclosure best suited for your current application is not EZ2CY®, being honest with you now will enable us to be a consideration on your future vessels.

Introduction

This information is an attempt to untangle the confusing, confounding, and often costly mystery of the various clear products used in the making of enclosures for the boating world. Many would prefer that this all stay a mystery. However, EZ2CY® is dedicated to serving the boating public with honesty and integrity. It is our belief that giving the consumer information so they can make an informed choice is the ethical and proper path for all companies.
Not every boat or owner is a candidate for any particular enclosure. Making the right choice is in everyone's best interest. To achieve that, you need clear information — and clearing the mystery is exactly what we aim to do here.

What Are the Different Products?

It may at first seem a simple task to explain the different materials; however, the different materials go by many different trade names and are not always clearly identified. The following covers each category: acrylic, polycarbonate, clear vinyl (Isinglass), and co-polyester.

Who We Are — An Honest Manufacturer in a Confusing Market

EZ2CY® was founded on a single conviction: boaters deserve the truth about what they're buying. From our facility in Riviera Beach, Florida, we have manufactured precision boat enclosures for over 35 years — serving recreational boaters, charter captains, and luxury yacht owners across the U.S. coastline and beyond.

Every enclosure we ship is fabricated from Acrylite® Plus impact-modified acrylic, chosen because it consistently outperforms every alternative across every metric that matters at sea: clarity, UV stability, tensile strength, and long-term dimensional integrity.

We are not the enclosure for every vessel. We say so — upfront — because we would rather send you to the right product today than lose your trust for your next, more suitable vessel. That honesty has earned us repeat business for three decades. After installation, we back every enclosure with a 5-year prorated warranty that guarantees light transmittance will not degrade more than 3% in five years — a standard virtually no competitor publishes.

Comparison of EZ2CY® Materials

All measurements below reference the following ASTM standards: Light Transmittance — ASTM D1003 | Yellow Index — ASTM D1925 | Haze — ASTM D1003 | Tensile Strength — ASTM D638. UV results for acrylic based on EZ2CY® in-house Xenon Arc testing (5,000 hours). Polycarbonate UV data from GE TM 90-12.

Polycarbonate and Strataglass figures are published by their manufacturers. EZ2CY® impact modified acrylic UV, clarity, and yellowing figures per ASTM D1003 and D1925.

Exclusive to EZ2CY®

The only hard enclosure that breathes.

The old knock on hard enclosures in Florida heat was trapped warmth. We solved it. EZ Vent is built-in ventilation that moves fresh air behind the panels without wind intrusion or noise, and closes off for a fully sealed enclosure when the weather turns.

It integrates into the acrylic framing itself, which is structurally impossible on soft vinyl. Specify it at design time, not as an afterthought.

01 Fresh air, no fans

Passive circulation behind the panels. No forced air required.

02 Seals up on demand

Closeable in bad weather for a fully enclosed, dry helm.

03 Acrylic only

Engineered into the rigid panel framing. It cannot be fitted to vinyl.

Built for serious vessels

Where rigid acrylic earns its keep.

Motor Yacht & Flybridge

Four-sided flybridge and aft-deck protection. Some of our most visible installs sit on Princess and Viking flybridge yachts, built for clarity and rigidity.

Also ideal for convertibles, semi-custom builds, and any boat that lives in Florida sun year round.

Two systems, one shop

We build both. We help you pick the right one.

The right enclosure depends on your boat, how you use it, and your budget. Here is how the two systems compare.

Hard Acrylic Enclosures

The right enclosure depends on your boat, how you use it, and your budget. Here is how the two systems compare.

  • Blocks 98% of UV and transmits 91% of light

  • Lasts 10 to 11 years, with installs documented past 18

  • Won't shatter on impact, the safer choice offshore

  • The only system that accepts built-in EZ Vent ventilation

Best for sportfish, flybridge motoryachts, and year-round Florida boaters.

Flexible & affordable

Soft Isinglass Enclosures

Optical-grade 30 or 40-gauge clear marine vinyl set in aluminum tracks with YKK marine zippers and Stamoid binding.

  • Rolls up for open-air running

  • Lower upfront cost, easy panel replacement

  • Blocks roughly 71% of UV, lasts 5 to 10 years

Best for center consoles, pontoons, and sailing cockpits.

Three decades of installs

Real boats. Documented specs.

We build in-house and measure on your vessel. Here is one of our signature flybridge builds, spec for spec.

Signature build

72' Princess Flybridge

Viking 64 Sportfish

Hard cockpit and flybridge enclosure with EZ Vent panels for heat management through the warm months.

Viking 56 Sportfish

Precision multi-panel hard enclosure, still crystal clear after years of continuous Florida service.

Combination systems

On complex layouts we build hybrids, rigid acrylic forward and soft isinglass aft, for full coverage with cockpit flexibility.

What goes into every enclosure

How it gets built

From measurement to installation.

01
On-vessel measurement

We board your vessel and measure every panel opening, frame structure, and mounting point, accounting for hardware and frame curvature.

02
In-house fabrication

Impact modified acrylic panels are cut, edged, and fitted in our Riviera Beach shop. Frames are built from marine-grade aluminum, and EZ Vent hardware is installed where specified.

03
Professional installation

We fit every panel on your vessel and walk you through operation, EZ Vent use, and cleaning. Correct handling from day one is key to long panel life.

Care & cleaning

More scratch-resistant. Still worth caring for.

Impact modified acrylic holds up far better than vinyl, but the right products keep it crystal clear for the long haul. We make a dedicated care line for acrylic and isinglass.

âš  Do not use
Never use Windex, Rain-X, acetone, or alcohol-based cleaners on acrylic. They cause permanent crazing and clouding. Skip Rain-X and silicone products too.

EZ2CY® care line

Plastic Cleaner, Polish & Scratch Remover

  • Rinse with fresh water after every use to clear salt

  • Apply EZ2CY® Plastic Cleaner & Polish to maintain clarity and reduce static

  • Use EZ2CY® Scratch Remover to polish out surface marks

  • Clean only with a soft microfiber cloth, never paper towels
